The Quest for the Absolute between a Spiritual condition and a Nihilistic void. A Comparative study between al-Niffari’s Mysticism and the Existentialism of Cioran
Abstract
This study presents a new review that deviates from the prevailing acceptance of Al-Nafari's positions. It does not only analyze the discourse of emptiness from nothingness, which constitutes the mainstay of the book "Al-Mawqif", but also seeks to pursue the extents of this visionary discourse in Sufi works that belong to existential theology. The study attempted to capture the absolute as indicated by both Al-Nafari and Cioran. It concluded that the paths of pursuing the absolute are in two opposite directions. One of them ascends to a world of isthmus and light, in which eternal happiness, closeness and hospitality are achieved. The other goes back to the past in search of pre-birth happiness before being lured into the material world to live the eternal tragedy.
