The Issue of Rational Islam in the European Context Review of the book: "Is dit nu de Islam?
Abstract
The article aims to review the book "Is this really Islam? How to Live as a European Muslim in Modern Time", by Khalid Ben Haddou, published in Bergerhof and Lambrecht, Belgium, in Dutch, in 224 pages, a book that seeks to answer the questions of the problematic stage as the author himself puts it, namely, what do we mean by Islam today? Who represents or rather who can we consider the true representative of Islam? Are it terrorists who kill innocent people in the name of religion, the Shiites of Assad and Iran, the Sunnis of Saudi Arabia and the rebels of Syria, or the millions of Muslims who want to live in peace and coexist with others? Who owns the truth? And who should we believe? In an effort to formulate a realistic and objective alternative to the deplorable situation in which Muslims have been floundering, internally and externally, east and west, the author believes that the solution is rational Islam, whether by returning to the glories of Islamic civilization, philosophy and knowledge or by catching up with advanced Western civilization and constructive coexistence from others.
