The Geographic Distribution of Muslim Jurists (fuqaha') during the First Four Centuries AH
Abstract
This article provides an overview of the geographical distribution of Muslim jurists during the first four Hijri centuries (i.e. from the beginning of Islam to the era of the Islamic school at the end of the 4th Hijri century, i.e. the 10th AD century). The article contains the total share of each of the four schools of Sunni jurisprudence during that period. It also deals with the jurists who converted from one school of thought to another, and those who were not affiliated with a particular school of thought. It focuses on the geographical diversification of these jurists across the Islamic world. The findings are reinforced by previous studies.
